F.re.e, Bavaria’s largest travel and leisure fair, celebrated a successful anniversary from February 19 to 23, 2020. 50 years after the first edition, more than 130,000 visitors visited the Munich exhibition center this year to get ideas for leisure and vacation from over 1,300 exhibitors from 60 countries. The high level of satisfaction among visitors shows how well the mix of advice, sales, trial and error and stage program is received. 97 percent rated the fair as excellent, very good or good. The conclusion of the exhibitors is also very positive.
Dr. Reinhard Pfeiffer, Deputy CEO of Messe München, draws a very satisfied summary: “f.re.e has developed into a real institution in Munich and Bavaria over the past 50 years. For us, the holiday season begins here for many. Our visitors particularly appreciate the fact that they receive individual and detailed advice at the trade fair. ”
Hubert Aiwanger, Bavarian Minister of State for Economic Affairs, Regional Development and Energy, also congratulated f.re.e at the opening ceremony for the milestone birthday and emphasized the importance of f.re.e for tourism in Bavaria: “I congratulate Munich Trade Fair for the successful 50th anniversary of f.re.e, which has become an integral part of the trade fair calendar for the tourism industry. In its anniversary year, f.re.e again impressively shows how innovative, professional and customer-oriented the tourism industry in Bavaria is. With over 100 million overnight stays and 40 million arrivals in 2019, Bavaria – like no other state – stands for tourism. “
Together with f.re.e, the two partner events Munich Autotage and Golftage Munich opened their doors again in 2020. The trio of events harmonized excellently again this year. Accordingly, the organizer of the Munich Autotage Andrea Schaller from the Munich newspaper publisher draws an extremely satisfied conclusion: “The Autotage was very well received again this year. We were able to record more than 3,000 test drives on the five days of the fair. Numerous visitors took advantage of the unbeatable trade fair discounts and bought a new car on site. The advisory services were also very well received. ”Ingo Klöver, Managing Director of Planetfair, the organizer of the Golf Days, also said something similarly positive:“ The 11th Golf Days in Munich were again a complete success. 140 exhibitors from all segments of golf,
New special areas create enthusiasm
Once again this year, the major public runners included tried and tested highlights such as the extensive travel offer, the bicycle course, the large lake landscape in the water sports hall or the climbing tower. With the two themed islands of photography and boating as well as with the start-up camp, f.re.e also offered three new products this year that the trade fair visitors really liked. “Visiting f.re.e is almost mandatory for many of our visitors. To keep it that way, we are continuously developing the trade fair. We are therefore very pleased that our new special areas have been so well received, ”says Jessica Tilly, project manager at f.re.e.
The large stand of this year’s partner country Italy provided real dolce vita flair, with seven regions providing information about the extremely varied holiday and leisure opportunities in Bella Italia and spoiling the visitors with culinary delights. Monica Bonaspetti, Marketing Officer at the Italian tourism association ENIT, therefore draws a positive conclusion: “f.re.e 2020 went very well for us! We had a lot of visitors – especially in the mornings. We were particularly pleased that we were also able to show the unknown sides of Italy. “
In addition, the three travel halls also offered the opportunity to take a short foray into the world this year. Not only were the numerous long-distance travel providers and Mediterranean destinations very popular, but also the providers from Bavaria and Germany were heavily frequented. Barbara Radomski, Managing Director of BAYERN TOURISMUS GmbH confirms this: “The Bavaria event area has again attracted numerous visitors this year. The ‘Vacation dahoam’ inspires more and more people. Thanks to our Bavarian partners, visitors to f.re.e experienced authentically and impressively what traditionally makes a vacation in the Free State different. They could taste, smell, feel, hear and see Bavaria. ”Corinne Miseer, Managing Director of Dresden Marketing GmbH, is also satisfied who was represented at f.re.e for the first time: “People are increasingly planning their trips and especially city trips individually and are happy to be inspired by trade fairs. We have therefore significantly expanded our presence at end-user fairs and have found f.re.e in Munich to be a format that perfectly matches our strategy and our target groups. “
Caravanning & camping
The caravaning & camping boom continues. The number of new registrations rose again strongly in 2019. Accordingly, f.re.e’s offer in this segment was even larger this year. In a total of almost three halls there was a wide selection of tents and accessories as well as over 300 vehicles from 75 brands to see and buy. Daniel Onggowinarso, Managing Director of the Caravaning Industrie Verband e. V. (CIVD), can only confirm the extremely positive development: “How popular caravanning is was also shown at f.re.e, because visitors were very interested in the motorhomes and caravans on display. Many well-known manufacturers presented their latest models. F.re.e offers visitors an interesting mix of leisure time, Travel and Health and the exhibitors an attractive target group of affluent people with an affinity for travel and an active lifestyle. It is therefore an important date in the calendar of the caravanning industry. “Marie Gérard, Managing Director of Wohnwagen Gérard GmbH, looks back on a successful trade fair:” For us, f.re.e 2020 was a great trade fair. We had a lot of fun, great customers, many interested parties and good conversations, and we felt very comfortable here with our colleagues. We are already looking forward to f.re.e 2021. We are proud that we, as the longest partner of f.re.e or the CBR at the time, have been here at the trade fair for 50 years now and hope to become one another 50 years. ”Furthermore, Karl Hansmann, Business Developer DACH at the camping equipment supplier Outwell, is very satisfied with f.re.e 2020: “We have significantly enlarged our area at f.re.e. We appreciate the different areas of outdoor, caravanning & camping and cycling and meet different target groups. We are happy to meet so many active campers and families in Munich again and again, have had many conversations and are very satisfied with the interest in our products and sales. ”
In 2020, the topic of water sports was also very popular again. The focus was on the one hand with the paddle and stand up paddling (SUP) lakes and the plunge pool, the extremely well received action areas, on the other hand the extensive range of exhibitors of kayaks, canoes, SUP boards, diving equipment and much more. The good progress of f.re.e in the water sports hall is reflected in the statement by Oliver Bungers, President of the Bavarian Canoe Association eV: “We are pleased that our offer at f.re.e in the The world of water sports reaches as many people interested in canoeing as there is hardly any other opportunity. That is why we make great efforts year after year to be able to participate again. “
The bike area has proven to be an absolute crowd-puller this year. Both the stands of the numerous suppliers and the two courses for testing new bike models were very crowded. In addition, many children and young people use the pump track and the Gorilla Playground for a test drive. Andreas Josef Nickl, managing director of the bicycle manufacturer ANJONI, is therefore pleased to take stock: “f.re.e is an excellent trade fair for presenting innovative products such as our super-light e-bikes. We were able to significantly increase our level of awareness and make a lot of new customer contacts. ”Petra Husemann-Roew, Managing Director of the ADFC Landesverband Bayern eV, also said that“ f.re.e was a complete success for us again this year. ”
In addition, f.re.e also provided many radiant faces in the other thematic areas of cruise & ship travel, health & wellness and outdoor. Franziska Zander from AIDA Cruises is therefore convinced of the trade fair: “Our stand was well visited again this year and was very well received by the visitors. The main attraction was, of course, our AIDAnova show stage again – a short break on a trial basis is something very special! We were able to inspire many guests with our great, unique product and send it straight on vacation. ”
