60,000 sqm of concentrated optics, represented by 605 exhibitors from 39 countries: opti 2020 was a complete success. The new stylish Entree Northeast as well as the Northwest Entrance were this year’s gates to the well-attended halls. Around 28,000 trade visitors from 93 countries voted live with their feet – and got the latest trends and developments right at the beginning of the year.

A good feeling right from the start: opti 2020 already offered its visitors access to the exhibition halls. With a slight increase in international guests, the annual kick-off meeting of the optical family once again showed how important opti and Germany are for the industry – and was once again the focus of the global scene in 2020.

Right from the start of the year, the mood was excellent because: According to the industry association Spectaris, the German optics industry can look back on the most successful business year of the last decade with sales growth of 5.4 percent. The growth trend has continued unabated since 2011. The good business climate was reflected on the exhibitor and visitor side: Almost two thirds of the exhibitors achieved deals, orders or orders at the trade fair, while 92% of the trade visitors gave opti top marks this year.

The importance of opti for its national and international exhibitors and visitors remains unchanged. It remains the most important event within the DACH region. Josef May, CEO of the industry association Spectaris: “opti Munich 2020 was a good fair. Most of us, like in previous years, had a lot of valuable contacts. For the companies for whom it is an order fair, it was a good start to the new decade. Now we are faced with the common challenge of charging the new Stuttgart location communicatively and emotionally, since moving in the odd years is inevitable due to the future trade fair situation at the Munich location.

But we have confidence in the brand, the opti team and the central trade fair in the DACH region for the world. ” because moving in the odd years is inevitable due to the future trade fair situation at the Munich location. But we have confidence in the brand, the opti team and the central trade fair in the DACH region for the world. ” because moving in the odd years is inevitable due to the future trade fair situation at the Munich location. But we have confidence in the brand, the opti team and the central trade fair in the DACH region for the world. ”

In addition to good business, maintaining existing contacts and expanding your own network, the topic of further training was also high on the agenda. The opti FORUM and the knowledge transfer taking place there on all topics in the optical industry were well attended throughout 2020. In total, over 2,900 visitors attended one of the 33 lectures during the three-day period. The topics “Optic 4.0. – Opportunities and risks of teleoptometry ”,“ recommendation marketing ”and“ MDR challenge – what needs to be done before it comes into force? ”.

Another highlight at the opti FORUM was the presentation of the BLOGGER SPECTACLE Award 2020 to the best newcomer in the opti BOXES. The young brand Covrt Project Limited from London by designer Marcello Martino was selected by 25 international eyewear and lifestyle bloggers from eleven countries. The opti SHOWCASE on the topic of “company positioning”, which was offered using VR glasses in combination with personal advice, was met with keen interest.

With regard to the trade fair, ZVA President Thomas Truckenbrod sums up: “From the ZVA’s point of view, opti 2020 was the perfect start for the new decade and a great view of what’s to come. The trade visitor was once again offered everything that is needed for successful market participation. No matter what reasons led to the new location in 2021: The most important thing for me is that the whole family of industries comes together again in one place. I’m looking forward to Stuttgart! “

From 2021 opti will change its location and will take place in odd years in Stuttgart, for the first time from January 8-10, 2021. The background is that the Munich location was no longer available to opti on the part of Messe München at the usual time. The reasons for this are the world’s leading trade fair BAU and a strategic change in the trade fair portfolio of Messe München in odd years. Dieter Dohr, Chairman of the Management of the Gesellschaft für Handwerksmessen mbH: “The news that the Munich exhibition location could no longer be offered at the desired time was initially a great disappointment for all of us, because the industry feels at home here.

An industry get-together is not necessarily tied to a location, However, some criteria are indispensable for the success of our industry and the focus was on the search for a new location: The early January appointment, the day sequence Friday to Sunday, portable assembly and dismantling times, excellent logistics as well as addressing those who are used to opti strong exhibitor and visitor markets. In addition to Munich, the Stuttgart trade fair location alone offers all of these indispensable opti criteria.

”Bettina Reiter, who has been in the trade fair business and opti project manager for over 20 years, adds:“ The experienced opti team knows the industry, knows the trade fair and has been organizing it for many years highest level. At this location, opti remains opti. ”Stefan Lohnert, currently head of guest events and future managing director of Stuttgart State Fair:“ We really appreciate it.”
