The future of electronics manufacturing is smart! Productronica showed this from November 12th to 15th, 2019 at the Munich exhibition center. Over 1,500 exhibitors from 44 countries presented innovations from the fields of electronics manufacturing and development.
The trend topics included Smart Factory, Smart Maintenance and the promotion of young professionals. In addition to “Accelerating Talents” – a platform for students and young professionals – visitors to special shows such as the “3D AOI Arena” and the “Smart Maintenance Pavilion” were given insights into the automation of electronics production.
From the perspective of Falk Senger, Managing Director of Messe München, it was not only world premieres from companies such as Fuji Europe or Posalux that ensured a positive trade fair balance: “We are very pleased that we were able to increase both the number of exhibitors and the occupied space this year again . As a result, productronica has once again proven that it is the most important trade fair for electronics manufacturing. ”
Rainer Kurtz, chairman of the advisory board of productronica and chairman of the management board of Kurtz Holding, looks back on four successful days at the fair: “The large proportion of international trade visitors is an indication of the high importance of productronica in the various electronics manufacturing markets. Due to the large number of targeted discussions, we are optimistic that the industry will continue to grow in the long term. ”
Thilo Brückner, Managing Director VDMA EMINT, is also satisfied:
“productronica 2019 was again a complete success for our member companies. Despite the subdued overall economic situation, the electronics manufacturing industry continues to expect increasing sales and reports of full booths. And with the Hackathon @ productronica we were able to successfully bring young professionals together with mechanical engineering. “
Productronica was again able to increase its overall rating by visitors. According to a survey by the market research institute Gelszus, 98 percent rate the event as excellent to good. In addition, 97 percent of the visitors surveyed stated that their expectations for innovations at productronica were met. This also corresponds to an increase compared to the previous event.
A total of 44,000 visitors from 96 countries came to Munich. In addition to Germany, the top visitor countries were (in this order): Italy, Austria, Switzerland, France, the Russian Federation, Great Britain and the Czech Republic.
New format Accelerating Talents
Productronica has created the “Accelerating Talents” format to draw the attention of students and young professionals to the diverse fields of activity within electronics manufacturing. This platform for young professionals comprised various segments such as Career Center, Talent Gateway, Education Path and a Talent Stage.
The highlight was the 48-hour hackathon that Messe München organized together with the VDMA and the Fraunhofer Institute for Reliability and Microintegration (IZM). The exhibitors Komax and Schleuniger took part in the first productronica hackathon as sponsors and task leaders. In addition, the two companies and Fuji Europe and their HR departments made intensive use of the recruiting offer as part of “Accelerating Talents”.
Premiere for productronica Fast Forward – the start-up platform powered by Elektor
After the successful editions of “electronica Fast Forward” in 2016 and 2018, the platform for electronics start-ups took place for the first time at this year’s productronica. The innovations ranged from contactless pick and place machines to AI-based gesture control. A total of around 40 young companies applied. Ten start-ups were selected from these to present their products at productronica.
Around 80 submissions for the productronica Innovation Award
For the third time, Messe München has presented the productronica Innovation Award in cooperation with the specialist magazine productronic.
The following companies have won from the approximately 80 submissions in the six cluster categories:
Limata in the PCB & EMS Cluster, Seho Systems in the SMT Cluster, ASM Amicra in the Semiconductor Cluster, Zoller + Fröhlich in Cables, Coils & Hybrids Cluster, F&S Bondtec in the Future Markets Cluster and Vision Engineering in the Inspection & Quality Cluster.
With the alternating trade fairs productronica and electronica, Munich is the world’s most important meeting point for the electronics industry. The next electronica will take place from November 10 to 13, 2020, and the next productronica will take place from November 16 to 19, 2021 in Munich.
The world’s leading trade fair for the development and production of electronics will begin in three weeks at the Munich Trade Fair Center. In addition to the solutions and products of the more than 1,500 exhibitors, productronica offers an extensive supporting program with live demonstrations and numerous lectures and discussions in three thematic forums.
The trend topics at this year’s productronica are Smart Factory and Smart Maintenance. For this purpose, visitors will find a large selection of best practice examples and presentations both at exhibitors and at special shows and forum stages.
From 3D AOI to CFX process line – live demos at productronica
The 3D AOI Arena is celebrating its premiere at productronica this year. This enables a market overview for 3D automated optical inspection in Hall A2. Among others, companies like Cyberoptics, Omron, Viscom or Yamaha take part in the special show and present their solutions several times a day.
Another premiere will take place in Hall A1. The IPC CFX process line shows the possibilities offered by standardized machine-to-machine communication in electronics manufacturing.
In addition, the Smart Maintenance Pavilion in Hall B2 offers an insight into intelligent maintenance as part of the Smart Factory. The examples range from quality assurance with deep learning to online monitoring of machines.
Visitors can find out what the requirements of working in a clean room are on the clean room event stage in Hall B2. Equipped with virtual reality glasses, visitors enter a 3D animated clean room and complete tasks there.
IPC Hand Soldering World Championship 2019
The IPC Hand Soldering Competition has become an integral part of productronica. Between the first and third day of the fair, the regional hand soldering competition will be held in the West Entrance. Participants must set up a functional module within 60 minutes that meets the criteria of IPC-A-610F class 3. Speed and functionality are then assessed by IPC trainers. The winner in the regional competition qualifies for the World Cup on the last day of the fair. Representatives from Russia, Poland, Great Britain, France, Hungary and Asia take part in this.
Extensive lecture program on three stages
In addition to the best-practice examples and live demonstrations, visitors will find numerous lectures and discussion groups on trend topics in the development and production of on the stages of the productronica forum (hall A1), innovation forum (hall B2) and PCB & EMS Marketplace (hall B3) Electronics.
The spectrum in the forums ranges from artificial intelligence to printed electronics to obsolescence management and automation in electronics manufacturing.
The highlights include two round table discussions on the second day of the fair (November 13). At 12 o’clock in the productronica forum in hall A1 the question “Optimal assembly inspection – how?” Is asked.
The round table participants at 3 p.m. in the PCB & EMS Speakers Corner in Hall B3 discuss “Cloud, Big Data, AI, Robotics & Co: How much digitization does the EMS industry need?”
