The desire for free time and the search for special experiences increases. In the digital age in particular, the desire for analogue relaxation, nature and freedom is growing. These interests were shown at the oohh! served with a variety of offers. From February 5 to 9, around 770 exhibitors from 37 countries presented the current trends of the respective industries at the REISEN HAMBURG, FOTOHAVEN HAMBURG, KREUZFAHRTWELT HAMBURG, CARAVANING HAMBURG, RAD HAMBURG and AUTOTAGE HAMBURG trade fairs.
“The concept of the oohh! with the variety of topics and formats meets the zeitgeist. We also presented our visitors with the USA as a partner country of REISEN HAMBURG a very exciting and attractive long-distance travel destination. Our expectations were met in every respect, ”says Bernd Aufderheide, CEO of Hamburg Messe und Congress.
The oohh! Attended FreizeitWelten to go on an excursion around the world in eleven exhibition halls and to be inspired by the varied program and offers for vacation and leisure. Almost all visitors (99 percent) rated the event as positive overall.
Germany and the USA are in the lead
The high demand at Northern Germany’s largest tourism fair confirmed that Germany is the undisputed number 1 in travel destinations. At REISEN HAMBURG, visitors found out from the beaches of Schleswig-Holstein to the Alpine regions about travel destinations throughout Germany. This showed an above-average level of interest in adventure holidays and individual travel. The partner country USA presented itself with an extensive presence for long-distance travel. And not without reason, because 16 percent of Germans are interested in a trip to the USA in the next three years.
78 percent of Germans take pictures in their free time
People like to take pictures, especially when traveling, to remember the best time of the year. In addition to quick impressions via smartphone, artistic travel photography is again becoming the focus. The still young format FOTOHAVEN HAMBURG offered photo enthusiasts everything related to cameras, drones and smartphone photography. “Leica was there for the first time and we are thrilled with the range of products on offer. From the events of the FOTOHAVEN Academy, through the trained, professional staff at the stands, to the exhibitions where visitors could get inspiration for their next projects. For the next time we are thinking about what cultural contribution we can make here as Leica, “says Falk Friedrich, Managing Director of Leica Camera Deutschland GmbH.
Mobility on four and two wheels
At the largest CARAVANING HAMBURG since its inception, camping fans found out about the latest models, accessories and the possibilities for individual and flexible travel. The new technology forum was very popular and provided self-builders with the necessary know-how to retrofit. With well-founded advice and a large test course, RAD HAMBURG offered the opportunity to test bicycles and e-bikes extensively. In Hall B6, AUTOTAGE HAMBURG was presented for the first time as its own leisure world. Visitors took the opportunity to test drive in their dream car or to buy a new car on site.
Boom on cruises continues
Compared to 2009, the number of cruise travelers has more than doubled. This also underlines the KREUZFAHRTWELT HAMBURG, which has developed into the largest community meeting point for crusaders in Germany. Over 40 providers, including 20 shipping companies, showed the full range of vacation on the water.
“The USA has had a great response at the 2020 travel fair. All exhibitors have seen a surge in demand compared to previous years. The quality of the discussions is impressive. The format chosen encourages the future. It gave the impression that interested parties from all the surrounding states came to find out more about the USA and get inspiration. “
Tilo Krause-Dünow, Vice President Visit USA and Managing Director CANUSA Touristik GmbH
“The trade fair is well attended all day, we are extremely satisfied, we have many conversations with very interested guests, who inform themselves very specifically about various topics. The public likes to linger over a beer at our booth. We also benefit from cycling and caravanning fans who are looking for offers in these areas in our region. ” Undine Theml, Erzgebirge Tourism Association
“ The connection with the world of camping, motorhomes and cycling is good for us at the stand. We are seeing an increasing demand for caravan sites. Heike Baumgärtner, deputy. Managing Director of the Altmühl Valley Nature Park Tourist Association
“We are very, very satisfied with the number of visitors and definitely want to come back. The public is also very interested in less well known tourist destinations in Greece and asks exactly. Next time we are planning a larger and interactive booth so that visitors can immerse themselves in the experience of Greece with all their senses. “ Dimitra Tsatsani, German-Greek Chamber of Industry & Commerce
“Overall, we are here with 15 Turkish hotels and a travel agency. The mood among the exhibitors is very good. Our travel agency team is busy all the time, we are extremely satisfied with the booking volume. Many regular holidaymakers come to the stand as well as various new interested parties. ”

“We are thrilled with the mixture of trade fair and performance show and have a very interested audience here. Thanks to the cooperation with caravanning, we were also able to attract the 50plus target group. Sophisticated photo technology is still very popular and the enthusiasm continues. Especially the drone demonstrations were very well received by the audience. From beginners to professionals, we were able to welcome a wide range at our booth and are planning to include lectures on our products next year. “

CRUISE WORLD HAMBURG
“Our stand at the fair is always well received and visitors are happy that we are there. We were well attended all week and had great conversations. The main attraction is, of course, our show booth from AIDA Nova, where everything is looked at, tried out, the beds are checked, etc. We are particularly pleased that we can send guests directly on vacation from the fair. ”
Nicole Schumann, Deputy Supervisor, Direct Sales Projects, AIDA Cruises Rostock
“We are very satisfied. The KREUZFAHRTWELT HAMBURG has been very well received by visitors this year and our offer has been very well received. We have had many bookings made through local travel agencies, and there have even been several trips around the world. The public is very interested in our smaller ships, so that we have also hit the nerve of those interested in cruising with our northern destinations. ”
