Interzoo, the world’s biggest trade fair for pet supplies, attracts decision-makers from the international pet industry to Nuremberg every two years. The visitors get a comprehensive market overview of the latest products and solutions for professional and animal-friendly care of pets.

As the world’s leading exhibition of supplies for dogs, cats, rodents, horses and birds, Interzoo drives innovation in the industry. In 2018, round about 39,000 trade visitors sourced information on the latest pet food, accessories, grooming aids and technical innovations in the aquaria, garden pond and terraria segments from about 1,990 exhibitors from 66 countries. Interzoo’s outstanding success story began with the presentation of products on four pasting tables, when four member companies presented their new products on pasting tables during the annual conference of the German Pet Trade & Industry Association (ZZF) in 1950. The association members liked the presentation so much that the “Zoo-Börse” became a permanent feature and soon afterwards received the name “Zoo-Messe”.

1,990 exhibitors und about 39,000 trade visitors – the figures for 2018 show that Interzoo has developed into the biggest international trade fair for pet supplies in over 60 years. Themes like equestrian sports, pet food technology, shop fittings, IT systems etc. are represented as well as traditional products for dogs, cats, small mammals, birds, aquaria and terraria.


About 39,000 trade visitors travel to Interzoo in Nuremberg from over 120 countries. You as exhibitor can expand your worldwide export business and make yourself more independent of economic fluctuations. Interzoo particularly attracts the specialist trade from Europe and Germany.

Use the opportunity to develop new target groups. More than three-quarters of the visitors are specialists from the trade, for example, from pet stores, from drugstores, do-it-yourself stores and garden centres, the retail food trade and the Internet trade. Almost all visitors at Interzoo 2018 were involved in procurement decisions in their company.

Only eligible trade visitors are admitted to Interzoo. So this gives you as exhibitor the unique opportunity to meet all your major sales partners concentrated in one place, make new long-term contacts and introduce your quality products to purchasing decision-makers from all over the world.

Nine out of ten exhibitors rated their participation extremely favourably: 93 % of the exhibitors in each case reached their key target groups and made new business connections, and 90 % of the exhibitors expected noticeable follow-up business. On an exhibition area measuring some 125,000 square metres gross, Interzoo 2020 will once again provide a global market overview of an innovative range of pet food, grooming products and accessories for cats and dogs, birds, ornamental fish and terrarium animals. More than 1,990 exhibitors from 66 countries showcased their products at the last Interzoo. Of the some 39,000 trade visitors from 126 countries, almost 10,000 hailed from Germany. According to WZF, exhibitors from Turkey, the UK, the Netherlands, Spain and Russia have to date increased their total space for Interzoo 2020. Overseas exhibitors from Asia, Australia and Africa have also booked in total a larger exhibtion area compared with two years ago.

There are currently a greater number of stand registrations from Brazil, India, Switzerland, Hungary and Ireland in particular. Accordingly, Interzoo will this year once again be the innovation barometer and market place for the international pet industry. Increasingly, the booming trade fair for doing business is also evolving into a networking and communication platform. Demonstrations and presentations on international markets or topics like sustainability inspire both exhibitors and visitors to further develop their own product ranges and services.


Interzoo has a long tradition of countries taking part in the form of national pavilions. These allow trade visitors to systematically gain a compact impression of the pet supplies industry in specific regions worldwide. Combining exhibitors into pavilions like this means they can make contacts and initiate new business quickly and effectively. So far, Brazil, China, the UK, Hong Kong, Italy, Canada, Singapore, Taiwan, the Czech Republic and the USA have registered pavilions for Interzoo 2020. Iran, Russia and South Korea have announced a pavilion for the first time.

The Pavilion for Innovative Young Companies from Germany, which is subsidised by the German Ministry for Economic Affairs and Energy (BMWi), is already fully booked with 25 exhibitors, and 11 registrations have been received to date for the new International Start-Up Area. Interzoo organizer WZF also offers special packages for start-ups from Germany wanting to take part in Interzoo for the first time. “We are very keen on supporting innovative newcomers, as they are important for the healthy development of the sector,” says Alexandra Facklamm, Managing Director of WZF GmbH. This means that hall 11 will be the home of innovative young talent with a special focus on start-ups.

Interzoo is exclusively for pet industry professionals. Interzoo exhibitors prepare their show with professionals in mind, offering them high-calibre presentations and background information, so that it is an event by the industry for the industry. This is why anyone wanting to attend Interzoo for the first time needs proof of their industry affiliation to become a trade visitor. This is the only way for show organizer WZF to ensure the high calibre of participants and consequently, of the event itself. 


The international break-through of the “Zoo-Messe” succeeded in the congress hall of the Frankfurt exhibition site in 1959. The subsidiary Wirtschaftsgemeinschaft Zoologischer Fachbetriebe GmbH (WZF) took over all ZZF business activities from 1966 onwards and gave the exhibition – meanwhile held in Wiesbaden – the new name of Interzoo. Interzoo 1984 with 350 exhibitors and increasingly professionally designed stands reached the limits of its capacity in Wiesbaden and the exhibition moved to Nuremberg in 1988. Interzoo continuously extended its product spectrum in Nuremberg and today is indisputably the world’s leading exhibition for the global pet industry.
